Default Can't get AIM to work, any ideas?

OK, not sure what happened, but all of a sudden I can't get AIM or Yahoo messenger to work on my computer. I installed the Microsoft patch for that new virus going around, but I'm pretty sure that IM was working after that. Now I can't get AIM to sign on. . . I just get the "AIM service can't be reached" message. Aimexpress (browser-based AIM) won't connect either!!!

Anyone have ideas as to what's going on here? Internet security settings? I'm not savy enough to figure it out and don't want to call the IT help desk (long story). Anyway, any help is much appreciated.

Argh, I stay in a hotel Mon-Fri. . . no IM means I can't communicate with anyone at night.

Thanks.

Argh, just tried that. . . still not working. Damn. Thanks for the idea, though.

I wonder if the WiFi network was upgraded/firewalled here or something. Could that have something to do with it? I tried setting up a proxy server, but still no luck.

When that happens my internet isn't working or my AIM is corrupted. I think firewall has something to do with it since Sasser. You can try to download some other AIM agents such as Trillian and others. Then tell us what happens and we can go from there.

try to do a system restore to where you where before installing that microsoft patch...if thats not the problem...what are your computer specs?

1. what kind of connection?
2. are you using a router?
3. comp. specs..?
4. what error message are you receiving?

1. try reinstalling aim...
2. try upgrading aim...
3. try to go in my aim/edit options/edit preferences/sign on-off tab/connection/auto configure or reset...

is your other clients like AOL, MSN, browser working?

it may be the host that is down...try connecting again in a couple hours/days/week?

ok, everything just started working all of a sudden. . . everything logged in at once, Trillian, AIM, and Yahoo. Weird, considering I haven't been able to get on for the past 2 days.

Thanks for your help MrForgetable.

nigashorty, i have a feeling this all has something to do with the hotel itself. I was able to sign on at work (on a different computer), but couldn't get my laptop to sign on back at the hotel. Strangely, everything else worked, like my general internet connection. Also, I just realized that I couldn't remotely access my work e-mail, but now I can (at the same time AIM came back online). Alltogether a major PITA. Anyway, it works now.

Thanks for your help.

Were you using the hotels network? Perhaps they had the port blocked, if you go there again try changing to a different port...
