Default CapitalOne Auto finance is screwing me!

I had my S2K financed through capital one auto finance. I had direct pay setup with a linked checking account so they deducted my payment automatically every month. Last Wed (3/14) I made a complete payoff (a large sum). On Thursday (3/15) the payment was processed and my balance was shown to be $0.00. On Monday (3/19) capital one made ANOTHER direct pay withdrawal from my checking account! I called them up and they said the direct pay was automatically canceled by their system on 3/19, which just so happened to be AFTER the last erroneous payment was taken (even though the balance was already $0.00) .. now I have to wait "approximately 20 business days" for a refund check to be sent as they will not wire the money back into my account. So basically I'm giving them a $380 loan for a freaking month because their software was written by idiots. This checking account it used solely for online bill pay and I keep a close watch on the balance.. I'm just lucky the withdrawal didn't cause an overdraft or I would be really pissed.

Ford Motor Credit did the same to me when I bought my S. It took them 2 months of extra payments before they stopped and 3 more months before I got all my money back.

Learned my lesson. Stop all auto payments at least 3 months ahead and remember to write the check. At least that way you only get one month ahead and then when they do stop the auto pay you are good to go.

Most companies will cut costs on software development at the expense of customer service. It amazes me to see what even large companies put customers through. Even though it's only $380, I would still be pissed. Back in college I used a new system provided by the school to register for classes and I got charged a full semester tuition x 3 by mistake. I have a to wait a month to get that money back...fukers.

Personally, instead of letting any institution draw money from your account, you should set up your accounts to pay out, that way, you're in direct control of the money.

Damn, that's why I hand write all of my checks! Too much room for some jackass to punch a keyboard key twice, or some glitch to drain my bank account. At least those bozos can't cash the same paper check twice.

I can't tell you how many time I've had issues with online bill pay, and usually the issues are NOT in the customer's favor, they are usually in the form of over payments, double payments, payments not deducted on time, etc etc. Sometimes a pen and a checkbook can make your life less stressful.

I just use online billpay through my bank. They do an electronic funds transfer to the bank I got the car loan through and it posts in two business days. I have never had a problem with it and I am in control of when it's paid and how much I want to pay. It also works well for all of my other bills. I hardly ever write checks any more.
