Default car trade in experences....

Im in the process of getting a s2000. i have hade my car up for sale but no bites. So i decided to put it back to stock and trade my 2000 Civic SI. My only problem is that the first owmer hydrolocked the motor and replaced it with a JDM b16. Do the check to make sure that the correct b16 in there or will the just over look it?

The dealer will likely not check if all appears normal, however my own code of ethics and integrity would force me to say something. I'd prefer it if the next customer buying my car knew this information. Worse yet, I don't know how I'd feel buying a car that I wasn't told the full story behind.

Yeh I would be curious to what the dealer would do if they did find out after the transaction happened and signing all those papers. Lawyer time maybe...

You must have known when you bought the car, so I would tell whomever is going to buy it. That will most likely kill your trade in value, but you probably got a good deal when you bought it.

The dealer most likely would not ever know......but if the next buyer figures it out, I am not sure what happens.

My cobra mustang was modified which was never disclosed to me... and I knew nothing about mustangs to know it until I took it drag racing..... the dealer where I bought it pitched in $200 to help pay towards a new "stock" computer.... hindsight i probably would not have bought the car though...

A civil matter for sure. The next buyer would seek civil remedy from the dealer in returning their money, who in turn would come after you for the reasonable difference I'd say, in trade in value.

i know here in virginia, you have to disclose everything about your car. So i am going to say, if you did a trade-in, and you did not disclose that to the dealer, they can come back and get you for fraud.

The best bet would probably go to say, Carmax, and say that the car was modified, and had an engine swap, not hydrolocked...

You should say that the engine was replaced and present any service records if possible.
