Default CART to go to CBS and Fox

This seems a bit odd to me but CART is going to PAY CBS 235K per hour for broadcast rights. Doesn't the network usually pay progamming suppliers for programs?

Yes that is true.. But if they pay CBS then Cart can sell the advertisement slots(commercials) & Cart keeps that money.. So in the end it is a little less the $235K per hour...

But reason Cart needed to buy TV time 1- nobody was bidding on it & 2 to keep the Sponsors

CBS is only going to show 7 races a year, the rest are going to be on speedvision. Too bad for the many CART fans that don't have speedvision. It's frustrating as a CART fan watching them keep shooting themselves in the foot. It's some of the best racing in the world on a wide variety of different tracks, but they just don't know how to promote it. I hope Tony George rots in hell for what he has done to American open-wheel racing.

Cart does not seem all that competent at running a racing organization lately so I guess they thought they would use stockholder resources to try the television business. Did they recruit managers from GM?

CART is heading downhill fast. How ironic that the IRL might be the winner of the open wheel war...

Some more details from Murph on 7th Gear:

In an Associated Press report, CBS senior vice president of programming Rob Correa confirmed that
