I was thinking along the same lines as you, dkhl, but I realized that it's a hassle carrying a digicam with me. It's just that more convenient to have a decent digital camera built into something I carry with me everywhere. Of course for real photography, I have a real digicam, but it's not convenient to carry it around everywhere.
