Cellular telephone
Here's my thoughts:
1. If you can't talk on the phone and drive, you cannot talk to a passenger in the seat next to you, ergo
2. Passengers should be outlawed from riding in vehicles, ergo
3. Multi-seat vehicles should be outlawed...
Where do you draw the line? Have I sufficiently demonstrated absurdity by being absurd? Thank you...

I somewhat agree with you lips, though I do think driving while holding a cellphone should be outlawed. Require the use of earpieces so those morons in the SUV's can actually take a corner without going across three lanes because they can't turn the wheel fast enough with one hand. I won't even bring up trying to talk on a cell phone you're holding and trying to drive a manual transmission car.

I voted for legal, but only if you have a car phone where you can keep both hands on the wheel at all times. In that case it can't be much worse than switching stations on the radio for instance. Hands free implies voice dialing or some steering wheel controls, so in practice i guess for most phones/people i'm actually voting for illegal.

Statistics definitely support the banning of phones while driving. The active participation in a conversation takes concentration away from driving.. yes, passengers are a distraction.
Even on the track with fewer variables it is difficult. Have you ever tried to talk about technique with the instructor at the same time you are driving close to your limit.. and watch for traffic, and watch for the corner workers, while setting up for the next corner, etc?
Perhaps at an easy pace with low traffic there is time for other things, but that human concentration can only multitask, not multiprocess, so when you are dwelling on one thing you are not thinking of anything else.
But there is no way to allow the use of devices under

I'm definitely in favor of a ban. I've done some very stupid things myself while trying to dial or answer a call and now I just pull off to the side of the road.
I'm sure that some of our fellow S2000 owners are quite skilled at this dangerous form of multi-tasking, but it's not them I'm worried about. It's all those other drivers who are no damned good behind the wheel in the first place. With a phone in their hand, they're killers. In fact, there have been several respected studies that have documented that cell phone use while driving dramatically increases the chance of an accident.

If they were banned I'd have to spend two extra hours at work each day (call me selfish.)
I've been thinking about this for a while though: Bikers learn the importance of keeping one's head straight up when cornering to maintain our "internal gyro's" effectiveness. I wonder how much of the cell phone weave comes from having the head slightly cocked while talking. This problem is eliminated by an ear piece.
