I am pretty sure we discussed such a system during recess in third grade. I think the reason we discarded it was because no matter how good your screen and cameras, if the vieiwer was mobile, or there were more than one looking from different angles, it is useless. A whole lot of equipment to haul around and set up just slows you down and makes it more obvious what you are doing. I cannot think of a single scenario where a force that is actually paying attention and conducting patrols of an area would be fooled for a minute by a couple of plasma screens and the soundtrack to Star Wars.
Also, if the entire surface is covered with a big movie screen, wouldn't the enemy spot you on movie night?
