Tell your co-worker to read the manual!

I recommend bed rest followed immediately by a drive to his or her local Honda dealership.

if I get a Boxster, can is there an option to have someone do that for me? or perhaps read it to me? *snickers*

tell him to check with some of the Boxster boards out there - I'm sure they will be more than willing to help out with his questions as a new owner.

In the manual for my 911 it says for the first 1000km:
1) Don't run the engine at high RPM before its properly warmed up.
2) Vary load and RPM a lot.
3) Never exceed 5000 RPM (!) during the break-in period.

In addition it says that the oil consumption during the break-in period may be higher than usual and that brakes and tires achieve their full perfomance after about 200km. Although a Boxster is not a 911 it should be pretty much the same routine for the proud new Boxster owner. At least your co-worker can check the oil level on the dashboard in the Porsche and won't be able to fiddle with his dipstick as we have to with our Stooks . Why did the guy/gal buy a Boxster instead of a Stook in the first place?

It's obvious he needs help! He should be buying an S2000 instead!!!

I would also recommend reading the manual for proper break-in specs.

Cheers,

When I went to the Porsche factory it was fun watching
new 911's rolling off the line.
They were driven out the door and onto the autobahn at a very high rate of speed. What break in??
When I asked the PR person about it, she said "If they are going to break better to do it here"

The traditional Porsche break in method - break it in like you want it to drive.

I may be wrong (but I don't think so) by saying that all Porsche's are broken in at the factory. They have drivers who actually put the break-in miles on them there.

I didn't say they were broken in.
I just said all the ones I saw roll off the line were driven off and onto the autobahn.
Remember were aren't talkin Chevy's here.
They don't exactly make 2000 a day
This was in 91 and if I remember correctly each engine was put on a dyno.
I also got a tour of the skunk works where they build special cars for special(rich) people. Very
