common apartment rent tactic?
When trying to rent a quality $$ apartment and asking if they have any 1 bedrooms I often get this...Lady looks in book and says "we have one currently about to open up" is this a tactic? I mean i went to one place and shes like we dont have any 1bedrooms at all and I thanked her for her time. So is this a common tactic trying to make u deposit right away?? thanks!
I'd guess it depends on where you live.
Here in San Diego a lot of places I talked to before moving out here are in such high demand you might see them hold a place for you for two hours until you get your deposit into the leasing office.
If it is a desirable place to live then someone will want it. Sure, the leasing people want to lock people in as soon as possible, but they don't really have to fear not getting apartments filled.

Yeah, depends on the market. I rented in Clark, NJ, and it was no problem - they had plenty of open units at the time.
When I moved to Plainsboro, NJ, it was a different story - the apartments were rarely empty for long, and I put down a deposit as soon as I looked at one.
Same deal in Princeton, NJ. Three people showed up to look at one apt, but luckily the other two didn't want it, so we snapped it up.
I also looked at plenty of other places while searching, but rejected some immediately. One place in Edison was really nice, until you looked at what was around it - train tracks and power lines out back, a strip mall on one side, a Wal-Mart (or something like that) with the loading bays facing the apartment complex (all night unloading, trucks beeping, etc). And it faced directly onto Route 1. Not exactly what I was looking for

I've lived in 2 apartment complexes since I've been in college. The first question they usually ask is when am I planning on moving.. then they look into their book to see what leases they have ending around that time. I'm not sure what you mean by 'tactic' though?
