Commodore 64!! I was cool, had the floppy drive not the tape drive. Lasted me all the way through college (grad 1991). I don't remember what was next at home, if anything was before I got a real job.

1983, the 8.5 and 11" floppy was still out there on the business side. The 5 1/4 on the home side. I recall the 5 1/4 being 180K/360K.

I worked for an IT integrator in high school. Had a blazing PC AT, with 640K RAM and a 10 MB hard card (a HD on a card.)

My first real PC at work was a Compaq 386/20 laptop and then got a PS2/50 with 2 MB of RAM. "You'd never need more than that!" was actually said by our IT Director in 1994 or 1995.

Are you talking about first PC you actually owned? Or perhaps used extensively (e.g. parent's computer)?

First PC I actually owned:

Intel Celeron (aka Celery) 400mhz, 64mb ram, 8mb integrated video, 8gb HD, Windows 98. Bought it at Wal-Mart. Played many great games on it: Homeworld, Homeworld 2, Half-Life, Imperium Galactica 2, Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sim City 2000, Sim City 3.

First PC I used:

amd 386, 300mb HD, 4mb ram, win 3.1/dos 6.x, I/O card of some sort. I remember Doom ran like a slide show, but I still played the hell out of it, then my cousin donated 4mb of ram and it was blazing fast! Also played some great classic games on it: Solar Winds, Blake Stone, Wolfenstein, Doom, Police Quest 1 and 2, Space Quest 3, Kings Quest 4, and various shareware games I downloaded at school and copied to a floppy because we couldn't afford internet. Ah, those were the days....I remember running memmaker.exe a lot.
