The Snake just knows how to win rounds i.e. he throws a lot quick, soft combos that don't do any real damage. I will give him credit, he can take a hit and fight off of the ropes. He's a good showman as well....

2nd place gets $250,000 (manfredo)
3rd place gets $200,000 (gomez)

i heard jeff fraza (mr. chicken pox) got $75,000 for winning his fight against brent cooper

supposedly, espn (or espn2) is in talks with the show's producers about the possibility of picking up the next season of contender ... let's hope so!

i agree with tenblade about mora's boxing tactics -- he only has 3 KOs in his 16 victories, which implies not alot of power punching. but props to him, he has a good chin and is very smart about his fight strategy. he needs to develop some power but i guess his skills have gotten him this far so who am i to critique

i loved when Mora said his mom would never have to work again.????? I hope he doesn't think the $1M ($700k net) was going to provide his mom a lifetime of enjoyment!

new car- $50k
New house $200k
many trips, clothing, food, etc... $$$$$$

Bye bye $$$$$ Time to work again!!!!!

I can't tell you how many world champions have made a living out of "just" knowing how to win rounds: Bernard Hopkins, Winky Wright, Chris Byrd, Pernell Whitaker, Roy Jones, Jr. The list goes on and on. Unless you are a power puncher (i.e. Mike Tyson), you HAVE to know how to box in order to win. Sergio plays to his strengths: hand speed & boxing ability. Admittedly, he doesn't have knockout power. He has lightning quick hands, a big heart and fought smart, and that's how/why he won.

As far as not doing any "real" damage, re-watch the end of Round 7. Twenty more seconds, and Manfredo is on the canvas...

BTW, I do not think Manfredo "got his ass kicked" by any means. I thought the fight was close throughout the first 6 rounds. It was Round 7 that really turned the tide. The judge that had it 70-63 in Sergio's favor was smoking

Manfredo was the aggressor so he gets bonus points for that but he was not landing punches. Tried too hard to stay inside so he wouldn't get hit by the speed of Mora. Should have pushed out more and boxed....

i thought the Gomez/Brinkley fight was much, much better than watching Manfredo put the man hug on Sergio for the last five rounds.

i think the heat got to Manfredo. he had nothing in his tank by round 5. his punches weren't backed with anything. especially in round 7. he was just leaning on Mora. otherwise, he's of fallen over of exhaustion a few times. his punches were more for show and to garner points. a kitten could've taken manfredo's shots in the seventh.

mucho disappointment as i think Manfredo is the better fighter.

I aslo think Manfredo is the better fighter but Mora is just so hard to hit. He's pretty slim and can get out of the way pretty quick. Manfredo had the right idea but trying to get in close but once he got in close to smother Mora, he just didn't hit him with anything good. A few good shots to Mora's body would have slowed him down and make him easier to hit.

Regardless, hats off to Mora.

What a fantastic reality show...let's hope someone else picks it up! Can't understand how it was dropped!

word is ESPN is trying to buy the rights to the show to continued it?

i thought Stallone calling for a rematch in the THIRD round was a bit stupid as well. as was his dramatic announcement at the end of the fight....

"here is your well deserved......................BELT"

couldn't he have called it the Contender Champion Belt? watch the video. it's actually pretty funny...
