Earlier today I was outside working on my new beater when I ran into a problem. I went inside to get my digicam to take some pix and post them on...well, my other message board...lol. When I came back out and saw the sky I about flipped. I'm a very weather-conscience person normally, but this storm came up very fast and there was no lightning or temp change until just that moment. I snapped a few pix, thought I'd share. When I went back inside to check the weather it said "fair" for my area . Enjoy.
The 3rd pic "S8" is very true to life color, the rest have a brownish thing going that just wasn't there, it was all deep grey. The really trippy thing was that the whole time everything was spinning in about 10 different directions, that photo "S8" was one of 50 I took because I thought it would turn into a funnel cloud at any moment. It didn't , oh well...maybe next time.
Sorry Sumir, I had the digicam on low res for crappy engine pix, forgive me.
Thanks PB02
Nope Mark, not washing...lol. Funny thing is, it looked KILLER, but it wasn't at all by the weatherman's standards. This cloud was rotating beyond belief, I still can't imagine why it didn't turn into a tornado...perfect conditions. Guess I'm kinda' glad it didn't since it was DIRECTLY above my apartment...lol.
We had a similarly bizarre storm pop up here. I checked the radar at 6 and it was clear for 50+ miles in every direction. 20 minutes later it was pouring, and we ended up having a storm cell only a bit larger than the county parked over Fort Wayne for 5+ hours - it dumped 3-6" of rain overnight. It never really moved, just morphed around and rained a lot. No funnel clouds thankfully, but still crazy!
Nice photos of the "cumulonimbus mamma" in S5. Any idea what the cloud tops were? I'm guessing that they were too low to set up the mezzocyclone required for a good mid-west style funnel cloud although there was clearly rotation.
Did you notice how much the temps droped as the gust front passed?
