I'm still not understanding how those pipes stay full of water on the slopes since they don't see to be sealed at the tanks on the ends!

Reminds me of a friend who asked me a question when we were watching a hockey game years ago and there was an ice ramp for the players to skate down on to the ice.

"How do they get the ice to freeze on that angle??"

stick a glass in a bathtub, let it fill it up with water, then turn it upside down... if you start to lift the glass up out of the water, the water will still stay in the glass because of suction and will not spill out until the brim (part you put your mouth on) comes up out of the water, exposing it to air... then the air will come in, and the water will spill out.
