You guys probably know that a bunch of us are going to Japan next month for a tour of the Tochigi plant, Twin Ring Motegi and a ton of other stuff. Well, I don't have a current passport, so I had to get a new one. But I couldn't find my birth certificate so I had to first get that. The people who I got it from overnighted it to me via FEDEX. I wasn't home, so they left me a notice. A signature was required so I signed the notice and then put it back outside the front door for them to leave in the vestibule of my building. My building is a vintage condo building which has only 8 units and we all know each other since we own our units. So I'm not concerned about someone in my building taking it...

Well, FEDEX says they left the package on Monday, but I haven't been able to find it. The problem is that it contains TWO certified copies of my freaking birth certificate!! What if they fell into the wrong hands? My fear is that someone could fake my identity and cause major damage to my finances or other such things.

Would you worry? I'm generally not one who worries, but this not only makes me do this -----> it makes me do this, too -----> and a little of this ------>

I know I don't have any recourse with FEDEX or any one else, for that matter. I can only hope that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. Theft = Opportunity + the "right" person. I'm hoping that this equation doesn't work against me...

Should I be concerned?!?

Both my wife and I had to deal with Idenitity Theft last year. I had to call all my credit card companies, plus the 4 major credit unions. They put flags to make sure no one was applying for credit under our names. The strange thing is you can't change your SSN until someone starts buying houses in your name. How lame is that?

That will teach you to keep your passport current.
How did you get into Canada without it?

hey greg,

Have you checked with the neighbors. Maybe one of them picked it up and is holding the package.

I hope you find the FedEx, but if not, you really don't need your birth certificate to RENEW your passport. Just take the old expired one with you when you get another. You will need an updated photo however. Mr. Pig, you don't need a passport to enter Canada from the USA if you are an American citizen.

I think there are two or 3 of me too. The other's are just posting while I'm injured and in bed.

it might take a few calls, but get FedEx on the horn and tell them why this is THAT important - they can get you in touch with the driver. The driver probably will not call you back personally, but it can happen. The driver will usually call up the manager and tell them where it was left.

I went through the same troubles with the F1 tickets before I found out that someone in apartment #162 got the tickets instead of me in #1622. Ugh! Even worse, it was a corporation, thus - they could have been given to the company as a gift!

Anyways...call up FedEx - ask them to patch you in with the local distribution office (or whatever they call it). They will not give out that number, but they will patch you in. Persistance!
