Coworker and His Prius- Gettin' Bent Out of Shape
So my coworker asked me how much I was paying for car insurance and I told him about $1600 a year. I told him that if he bought a $1000 beater he could nominate that as the primary vehicle then register his Prius as a secondary car. No big deal until I said, "But wait that would only make sense if you had a luxury secondary car, I don't know if you'll save with your economy car (Prius)" He then gave me that look like ummm the Prius is so not an econo car. Sheeeshhh... Isn't the Prius an economy car? I mean you bought it to save gas right? So you're thinking economy when you bought it??? So why isn't it an economy car???

Well maybe it won't technically be an economy car until the price difference over non-hybrid is less than the savings in gas...

Not to mention that you'll have to replace the battery at least once in it's lifetime (that's if you keep it long enough to see ANY return on gas savings) and new batteries are around $5k. Anyone who buys this car either hasn't done the math or they got it for the "status" of having a hybrid.
So how do all these hybrid batteries in the dump affect our environment?

Since battery recycling is standard now there is no effect on the environment. They're still green. Besides the un-green thing about batteries is their lead content, whose toxicity remains debatable.

Maybe Toyota should now start using asbestos for sound deadening.....

Or maybe they should put more of the "new car smell" in there to make the owners feel better. NOT!
Or put Red Dye #4 into their red paint mix...
