Thumbs up Craigslist scam using paypal?

So I put my laptop on sale and the next thing I know I have 3~4 buyers wanting to pay through paypal. They want me to ship the laptop because they are buying it for someone else. I even told them I will only ship after the payment is received and transferred to my back. They still want to do the transaction. To be honest, I've never met this kind of buyer before. Any comments?

I'd stay away from anyone offering paypal for a craigslist listing. If theyre looking at your ad and want to buy it they should be local. Cash only for anything.

I had a coworker get burned for $20 after some one bought some old baby shit from her. She took a check and of course, no good. It was only $20 but still people will do whatever they can to screw you.

On craiglist cash is the only sure thing.

That's true, I mean I'd definitely not take cheque or whatever else, but with paypal I can check if the fund came and even transfer it to my bank. I guess I'm not seeing how the scam is working yet.

they send you "funds" then get the item and pull the funds back. If you've sent the funds to your checking account then paypal will just nail you with a debit balance in your account.

I got a few of those emails when I tried selling my laptop a while back...

I eventually found a local and took cash for it....

they will pay you but after they receive the item they will open a dispute in which the buyer usually wins 99% the time. I am now hearing that if the money wasn't transferred for a item bought off ebay, Paypal won't do anything for either the buyer or the seller...

like the guy above me said...they just file a claim with paypal and paypal pulls back the funds and gives them back to the sender...typically no questions asked.

Just sell locally with cash. Or tell them to send you a money order; go to a bank to verify the authenticity of that money order, then wait for it to go through completely (could take days) before shipping it.
