Default crazy wedding costs

the avg is said to be about $30k for one day. anyone else think it's nuts? does any guy actually enjoy the process or is it really only done for the wife/family fantasy?

i just got married three months ago. we spent about $25k. i really, really did not want to spend anywhere close to that. thankfully, both of our parents helped out a lot with the costs. i would not say i enjoyed the process. in fact, i didnt do much, i left it up to her because she had an opinion on everything and i didnt. in the end, we couldnt be happier. everything was perfect, beautiful and a lot of fun so i dont regret it.

We are planning our wedding right now. Neither of us are interested in a big production. The day is much more for the family than it is for us. We hope to save money from the wedding and funnel it into a house down payment.

We spent around $25k back in 1999. It was worth every penny of it. Food was just over $10k, photographer was $6k, and those were probably the two most expensive items.

Everyone remembers the food (not hotel food), and the wedding pics are fantastic - none of our friends who cheaped out on photographers have any kind of decent pics. In fact, one couple still has no pics because the photographer's equipment was screwed up and he didn't notice.

That's insane!!! I just got engaged this past weekend, and we haven't really sat down an started making plans, but I had no idea is was going to cost so much. I want to save and spend the majority of our $$$ on the honeymoon trip something real nice.

I eloped at a cost of about $1500. That's about $500 for hotels/cars (us and friends), $200 for the preacher man, and the rest for booze/food.

Once in a while my wife will see some wedding pictures and a little sad, then one of her friends gets married and she remembers what a pain a big wedding can be.

$30k is more than a years salary for me or my girlfriend. I can guarantee if we do get married, its not gonna cost that much. We could probably get by with $10k and use the other $20k on something that would benefit us in the long run. . .like a down payment on a house.

I'm a groomsman in a wedding tomorrow.. from what I've gathered so far, it's going to be pretty big and expensive. Probably not $30k, but definitely over 20.

IMO $30K is a lot for a wedding. I guess if you have the funds and are inviting tons of people it will be worth every penny. Currently my fiancee is planning everything for our destination wedding on May 24, 2008 in Aruba. I believe it will cost around $5K.
