Daft Punk paid for all of those "samples"; all completely legal. Kanye paid Daft Punk for that "sample" as well, in fact Daft Punk makes an appearance in his music Video. Busta Rhymes sampled Daft Punk's "Technologic" in his song "Touch It." Also paid for and completely legal.

Timbaland on the other hand...

. . . is waiting for ASCAP/BMI to knock on their door. . . like any aggressive businessperson would.

Like anything else regarding IP (musical or otherwise), you weigh out the production costs vs. sales vs. liabilities.

Do I have to like Timbaland's ethics? No, but if I were a record executive, I may appreciate his ability to get product to market.

We all love Music, but very few us even want to know how the sausage gets made.

everyone steals from everybody else. thats just the way the music industry is. hell, even led zepplin stole beats and riffs.

i listen to daft punk not because they are innovative, but because i love there excessive use of robot voices and shooting laser noises. imho all songs should have techno remixes.

kanye as a lyracist is aweful, but his production skills are pretty good.

yeah reading the comments, it sounds like daft punk even wrote down the credits to the original artists in the liner notes for that album.

what's sad is when you borrow from yourself...have you guys heard the mp3 with two nickelback songs layed on top of each other? they're almost exactly the same, haha. i have it if anyone wants to host.

hes not sucessful to me. the only hip hop/rap dude i give a shred of credit to is Shawn Combs. hes a very smart guy. J-Z is a douche, and a no talent moron, same goes for fifty cent, little john and all the other idioits that make their money by talking over beats and rhyming words like "shizzle." whatever happened to good hip hop 2pac/biggie? oh ya they died.

...

i dont care what they say, Robot Rock is still one of the best songs they've mixed.

If you want to hear stolen music that you can recognize....listen to girl talk. He sells his stuff, but I don't know if he pays for the samples or not.
