"17" was one of my favorite songs for years, it's sad to hear of his passing, but I just keep thinking, what took him so long? With his lifestyle, it's a surprise to me he lasted this long.

So who's Rick James? Ah, nevermind, I kinda remember him.

 

Oh, he's just a pioneer, in the same genre as George Clinton (although he was more into acid and spaceships), who was immensely popular for his hit "Super Freak" among others. After his rise to fame, he became a notorious cocaine addict who ended up arrested for tying a bitch up to a bed and forcing her to do all sorts of stuff. Check out VH1's behind the music about Rick James. I'm sure it'll be on this weekend with his passing and all. The documentary is very interesting. Also check out The Dave Chappelle Show in which he (Dave) plays Rick James. It gives a wonderful insight into the personality of Rick James.

As a side note, they should really teach musical history in school these days. My 15 year old niece asked me the other day "who's Guns n Roses?". I replied only the most dangerous band in the world. Ahhh, the good old days....
