DE/SE/Straight Razors
Just wondering if there are other guys out there who currently uses DE/SE/straight razors and wet shaves...
I figured if any car forum should have these users, it'd be this one. You guys seem most likely to appreciate the beauty of:

This is a 1950's super speed flair tip. Its just beautiful. Brass body with chrome plating. It cost 2 bucks back then, now "user grade" versions are 20+, and the new old stock stuff are going for 50-60s
How about this one:

The "fat boy toggle" one sold on ebay for 600+! Granted, it was a special model..
Cost of a replacement blade...elss than 50 cents!

Funny that this came up. I just ordered one last night from Amazon.

the expensive name brand blades like you said, are about 50 cents each vs a fusion blade for about 4.50. im looking forward to trying it, they are supposed to eliminate ingrown hairs because they dont pull the hair up before cutting like the multiple blade razors do.

the initial cost is kind of high. youll need the safety razor, razors, and a razor stand at minimum ($60+/- for all of that). i guess youre also supposed to use a good badger brush, a good shaving cream (not the can type), and a pre shave oil and aftershave. prices on all of them vary, i already have quality badger brush, and im ordering all Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving products.
im probably looking at about $100 total, but it will pay it self off with in a few months with the cost of blades and if it also eliminates razor burn and ingrown hairs itll be well worth it. plus these razor handles are supposed to last a life time.

You can get a decent kit for around $50. Boar brush/super speed/VDH puck soap/any blade you want.
My kit consits of:
Boar brush (CVS brand) $11
VDH soap $2
'65 gillette SS $18 (ebay!)
feathers blades (20 pack) 11$
total: $42!
Its a really fun hobby and it makes my getting up in the morning interesting. The level of craftsmanship that go into the higher end brushes as well as the razors are amazing!
koala, is that a merkur? Sorry I'm not really well versed in this topic, its just a new interest and I'm getting sucked in quickly! have you looked at the 'mantic' guides on youtube?
On a sidenote, the prices of these razors are jumping up like crazy! a week ago, I picked up my '65 SS in good condition at under 20 and now I can hardly find an SS going for under 30. Maybe its just dumb luck but I think the wet shaving movement is picking up steam...

Merkur HD 34c - $38
Merkur 3x10pk - $16 (i heard feathers are better, i also heard to order a variety pack and find what you like best)
Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving creme - $12
Pre de Provence after shave - $14
Wooden razor stand - $18 (i was told these are a must to protect your blades)
Art of Shaving Boar Brush - $45 (already had this from a gift box that i bought a while back, 45 is the rate on Amazon right now. One guy i was talking to said not to skimp on the brush)
Taylor of Old Bond Street pre shave oil - $16
So about $160 total, but i already had the brush so ive got about $115 into it. Probably a little more than i first wanted to spend, but oh well, like i said i think itll be better for my skin, it will pay off after while.
