Say it with diamonds.

Seriously, that is pretty gross - talk about using someone for profit. Nothing like respecting the dead, eh?

I guess I wouldn't mind. What good is my body after they've already taken all the donor parts off me anyways? I've always planned on being cremated, but asked that my ashes are dumped out of an airplane. At least it saves from putting bodies in the ground. Why waste all that land?

I'm with ltweintz on this one. While it may be a little bizarre, I have always thought cemetaries were a huge, and I mean HUGE, waste of land. Well, I don't know if "waste" is the appropriate word here, but it's just a lot of acerage that is used for this...when it should be used as a, uhhh...race track!

hahaha...

OK, I did hear about this on the radio and this notion came up. It takes a HUGE amount of 'pure' carbon to make even a small diamond. While we are indeed carbon-based lifeforms, well, most of us anyway... ... the amount of 'carbon' that would be availble for compression into some kind of diamond would be pretty small. So I think what you would end up with would be something not even close to the quality of a commercial-grade diamond, suitable for use on an oil drill or a sanding wheel.

Woohoo!!

So what I think is going on is that other material would have to be mixed in to the slurry to make a diamond out of a person...but that's just my gut feeling.

I wouldn't mind doing this, but only after all the spare parts are taken out...but the end resulting 'diamond' would be less than decent quality.

Can you imagine your Mom coming in the mail? Having to open an envelope and watch your Mom fall out? Sending a check to some company so they can compress your Mom?

It sounds like a kinda cool idea, but jesus man!

Out of curiosity, what is it about this that creeps you guys out? It is just a dead body after all. Why does a lifeless body hold so much significance?
