At least he should be glad he isn't in the car when the fire happen, no matter is the neighbor or the car caught heat form the road.

The fireman was right. You are not meant to park cars with catalytic converters over dry leaves, long grass etc. There's even a specific reference to this (Pg. 282) in the S2000 manual.

"Park your car away from high grass, dry leaves, or other flammables."
