Interesting thread and one that made me think. Here's what I thought:

1. The problem is real and points to the need for more than one OT area. I'd suggest:

OT - Car related

OT - Not About Cars

OT - Politics

OT - Anything Goes
Obviously, these would need to be "Enter at your own risk and no complaining" areas if our good-natured host is to stay that way.

2. It would be really great if we could screen out topic areas when we set up our defaults. I just like to choose "view new posts" but I'd be perfectly satisfied if I could screen out three of the four above. It would also help to avoid the occasional (and painful) bigotry that pops up from time to time. And I suspect that our young wannabes would be drawn to those forums; a good thing.

Sondra-

I've only been a member since July, but it seems to me that the content decline happened right after the 9/11 attacks. A number of people got off on these long winded political-historical diatribes, which lead to nasty arguments, major religious and ethnic differences, name calling, and general nastiness. I confess, I contributed to some of this in the early going. This nastiness began to transcend areas related to world events into lots of well meaning threads. It sort of sucked the fun out of this forum. I personally got into two nasty fights with two members: (1) a guy who dredged every spiteful, hateful thing he could think of about everybody and everything in California and (20 another guy who called I and another member who were having fun on a thread gay -- and wouldn't back down, repeatedly I think people need to lighten up in this forum.

Actually, I noticed a decline to rice topic lately. Content of some of the technical threads has been pure BS. I've heard some pretty far out topics lately with more BS than fact. I'm noticing a lot of young kids posting here also. I think that some of the garbage from other related websites is slowly making it way here. I think those that are intrested in the S 2000 are still here but there is an increase of Riceboys and smartasses! I agree with you!

I noticed that there's a rise in enthuiasts and not owners.

We got people wanting to sell Preludes, and asking about performance parts for other autos than the S 2000,cameras and the like. I'm not saying that this kind of stuff isn't welcome but I think it belongs at the appropriate website. (e-bay, online auctions, Super Honda Blah Blah!)

MT's are great stress relievers!

I got to agree with Richard also. My question is have we just talked about everything we can say about the S 2000? Seems like we are rehashing alot of old items. I could be wrong, it's just an observation. I've been getting a little bored lately but this will pass to. Maybe it's just me.

Has it declined, or has it just altered. For every thread that I find irritating, boring or which just leaves me cold, I guess there are those who think otherwise. I have to accept that even I, am not the final arbiter of good taste. This board caters for everyone or should.

If you don't like it, don't read it, don't post to it.

But keep posting.

Given the multinational world wide nature of this board and the fact that very few of us know each other on any meaningful level, it's a wonder the board survives at all.

Quit griping and post something interesting.!
