defending the S2000
My favorite (and accurate) response to those who say "I hear it has no low-end torque" et. al. is:
"People who say that have rarely driven/ridden in one..."
If that doesn't shut them up, I take 'em for a ride.
There were a few local modified, race-tired Miata's at the last track day. Both driver and passengers of the Miata had major newfound respect after being totaly zinged on the track. They had expected to be able to keep up, or at least not be thouroughly outperformed, and admitted that was clearly not the case.
That said, I'm going to see if I can hunt down on of the new M3 demo's that supposedly hit the dealers this week and see what all the fuss is about...

I'm with you Captain!
I have owned 2 Miatas before, an automatic and a 5 speed 'M' Edition. Love those cars. Still do, but I really like the S2000.
I remember my first drive in the S2000. WOW!!! Has it over the Miata. I don't race. I love cars like you! Both types of cars have it going on!!! For me they are both loads of driving fun! Normal launches, getting up to speed and driving through the twisties. What more could either owner want of such fun autos.
Well, enough rambing on! Spring is here! Gotta drive.

Hey Kirk,
Why get so concerned about what others think of our cars? Did you buy it to enjoy it or have all your Miata friends bow in your presence?
After all, these posts are on a MIATA board, not the place you should go for objective opinions (just like you see a lot of S2000 bias here). IMO, this seems to be common to every car-related board - you have the masses of true believers, and then there are the trolls who feel the need to sway members' opinions. I've seen it countless times on the Supra list - someone will trash a Corvette, Camaro, or RX-7, and someone who owns one of these cars will feel compelled to defend their car...not that it makes any difference, since none of us are getting commissions for influencing any sales!
BTW, IMO the S2K is pretty gutless under 6K, but I'm still infatuated w/ it nonetheless. Maybe the fact that my last car had over 3X the S2k's torque has something to do w/ that impression. It's all relative depending on your point of reference!
