dell or alienware?

Talk about blatant falsehoods.
I've owned a Dell AND an A-ware desktop, so I have first hand knowledge of their pricing. I just hand assembled my latest PC for $1500. The same desktop with equivalent parts from Dell would've cost twice that much. I'm not even gonna touch A-ware...
You go, girlfriend!

If you actually think it is cheaper to build your own high-end gaming rig, you need to do a little more research.
I HAVE built my own high end gaming rig...for $1500. I already DID the research...which is why I ended up building it myself. I know how much Dell charges -- 'cause I actually owned one. I know how much A-ware charges -- 'cause I actually own one. I know how much it costs to build my own gaming PC -- 'cause I just did it. And FYI: it was cheaper than the other 2 options! I don't need any research when I have FIRST HAND KNOWLEDGE.
This reminds me of the "debate" with the guys who refuse to believe that an S with a 4.57 final drive will ALWAYS outperform a stock S 0-60. You're either completely ignorant (which I don't think is the case judging by your posts in other threads) or you're in total friggin' denial.

Now you've seen better.

If we built our own cars from random parts the LA freeways would be nonstop carnage. Sometimes, it's just better to let Mercedes spend $1.5 billion developing the new E-Class (with included maintenance) than building your own kit car for a little less money and having to UPS parts across the country when they break. The analogy for computers is that instead of mailing in broken parts you can go to Dell or Apple in your area and they'll swap your broken stuff for shiny new gear. In the long run, especially if you value your time, it's cheaper and better to buy a mass-made computer.

I just read that thread on gears in an S2K, and please, don't lump me in with all the "gears don't help" people :beg:
the only thing I took issue with is the assertion that building your own system is cheaper. It could be, but likely won't be, if you make parts choices based on quality rather than price. And if all the intangibles and non-monetary benefits are what you are after, why pretend saving money is a primary motivator? Building a high-end gaming rig is not the way to save money.
dang, what a mess!
chill, my friends!
so, i just bought another dell.
it's my third dell and
again, i'll beat the shiet out it until it dies.
well, as much as i'd love to build my own,
i don't have time to research and shop around.
plus, i used to assemble computers at this small
k_town coputer store-
i've been avoiding custom built ones ever since.
... just personal preference.
