Depleted uranium (U-238) is a by-product of nuclear energy. It is nuclear waste. Depleted uranium is in abundance and, as it is radioactive material, needs to be stored safely.

Before the Gulf War began the Pentagon began experimenting with depleted uranium as a material to be used to build bombs & shells. The department of energy's costly storage of this material would obviously be reduced, along with the cost to build incredibly strong warheads that can cut through armor like a warm knife through butter. However, fully known to the highest authorities in both the department of energy and the pentagon, it has been proven that depleted uranium contains traces of plutonium, the most toxic metal known to man. This material remains highly radioactive for 4.5 billion years.

After an Iraqi vehicle was destroyed, soldiers sometimes scoured the wreckage for trophies to bring back home. Iraqi civilians dug holes around the wreckage for pieces of scrap metal to be sold for food. American soldiers set up camps in areas that have been torn by battle with the use of depleted uranium coated warheads.

After the Gulf War ended, out of over 600,000 troops that were enlisted, over 180,000 reported medical problems. As of 1/1/2000, ten thousand of these people have died. I cannot even imagine how many Iraqi civilians have been affected and WILL be affected for the remainder of this planet's life.

Why did the government keep this a secret? How many lives could have been saved if our soldiers had known that the shells in their tanks and the bombs in their planes would turn Iraqi war vehicles into piles of radioactive waste?

So that's where Saddam gets his radioactive materials... ironical.

Hmmm... what about warthog pilots? The Avenger cannon fires depleted uranium shells.

Doesn't surprise me - those 30mm cannons on the A10s are designed to tear up heavily armored vehicles.

I tend to doubt the accuracy of this post. Its not that I don't believe there is a danger in handling depleted uranium BUT those soldiers and civilians are probably sick from the chemical agents there, not spent shells. Remember, this freak is a master at manufacturing chemical agents. He has only improved his skills over the last 12 years.
