so, I went to Saks Fifth Avenue today and bought a Prada handbag for my girlfriend's bday. It cost about $550. Later I went online i found the same handbag from an online retailer for less than $200. At first I thought it was a fake, but no, its the real thing. i found several other online retailers that sold it for that price. In fact, I found many retailers selling other designer bags for very cheap too, in many cases, less than half the price of the store. So I'm wondering, how come these online retailers sell them for so cheap, how are they able to do so and did I get totally ripped off purchasing from a major dept. store?

 

sometimes them online retailer sell fake stuff too. unless they're big major brand name retailer, then that would be different.


some reason they might be able to offer lower price

is because the item is being discontinued, returned items from store or that the new shipment has a lower cost (ahem cheap china labor)

 

A lot of these online retailers claim that they are real but its fake stuff.

 

Fake, AND marked up 400%. Go down to china town in NYC and check out all the "REAL" bags. You can even pick up a rolex for $20!!

They claim 100% authentic on some sites...so I guess they're just straight up lying then.

 

no, there are some sites that do sell real prada bags at a discount.....they may be either last season (discontinued), overstock, etc......
you can find almost anything at a discount online including luxury items.....

 

The discounts you can find on last season items are huge. This is mostly due to the massive markup these items bring during their first season.

 

also they easily could be last seasons bag and not notice till you have some of the core styles on change slightly eash year with where the logo is placed color of stiching little things they don't tell you on thier site easy way to check is to check the item code or part number against the manufactor site most times they won't be the same

She will be looking for a new one. Handbags are a big deal to her. I don't get it, but oh well. If I were a girl it would be $30 target knockoffs for me. I was given a Coach briefcase for college graduation. It sits in a closet with about three inches of dust. About every five years I pull it out for a job interview, otherwise I prefer the nylon laptop bag.
