You can lease a base Boxster for under $500 for 39 months with only a couple of thousand down. You could get one for even less when there were a few 01 left at $6-7K off MSRP.
I wouldn't drive the base over an S2K though, the S though yes. Although the chassis is unbelievably sorted in both, the little bit of extra power does wonders.
Oh yeah, instead of getting all upset, you should take the commercial (which mind you was by an individual Porsche dealership and not PCNA nor PAG) as a complement that they would feel a threat enough from your lowly S2000s to spend $$$$ to advertise something like that. Porsche people didn't get up in arms when Dodge ran the commercial of that truck blowing by two Porsches on a twisty road.

I hope all the suckers who believe that commercial head straight down to Pacific Porsche and buy a Boxster. That will mean fewer people trying to by an S2000, and easier for me to find one at a reasonable price in Southern California. Until Honda decides to manufacture the S2000 in sufficient numbers to approach Porsche's output, it won't matter how many of these ads pop up. Honda will still sell every S they make, and car enthusiasts will still know the truth about which is a better value.
I am, honestly and truly, okay with that kind of statement (in the ad). I don't believe it of course... but if it lures ignorant people to the boxster it leaves the S2000's to the auto purist.
I'm okay with that... and I rather enjoy it when people say, "What kind of car is that?"

I wish MFers would stop comparing their cars to the S2000 and trying to put it and me down. I didn't buy an S2000 because I couldn't afford anything else. I bought it because it was my dream car. If someone wants to buy a Porsche, that's fine by me. If someone wants to buy a Kia, that's cool too. Just leave me and my choices out of it and there won't be any problems. When I first heard that commercial I got all riled up. Seeing this thread brought back the anger in full force. And I am tempted to do something about it too. I like Sondra's suggestion but I think an S2000 group drive-by is in order. Why don't we gather up everyone in SoCal and drive to the dealership? Take up all their parking spots and choke up traffic around the area with S2000s. We won't get in trouble cuz we'll just tell the cops that we heard the commercial and decided to see what the Boxster was all about. The MFer Porsche dealer will never think again about messing with the S2000.
Who's with me?
Who's with me?
Just to add fuel to the fire, I heard a second commercial by Pacific Porsche this evening, once again trying to suggest that an S2000 compares to an MR2 or a Miata but not to a Boxster. (They were specific about the Boxster in this one; in the first they only referred to a Porsche.)
Sigh.
Sigh.
You know how sketchy car dealers are ... they will say ANYTHING to get you there. Unfortunately there is probably some dumba$$ who believed in the commercial.
Just cuz Porsche didn't do it right the first time doesn't mean they have to take cheap shots!
