Default Digital Cameras

Since a lot of members have digital cameras, I thought I would see if anyone had a good suggestion for a relatively cheap one. I'm not a picture person, but would like something that I could take pictures, then download them to my PC. I checked Sony's website, & it seems that the cheapest they have starts at ~$450. Who else makes good digital cameras? Any out there in the $2-300 range?

I just bought my sister a Kodak DX3600. It runs about $299. It is a basic point-and-shoot 2.3 megapixel model. One feature I like is that is can plug right into the video port on your TV. The pictures come out full screen and look great. When she got back from her honeymoon, we just plugged the camera into the video port and had a family viewing.

Whatever you get, you will want to spring for a camera with optical zoom. Digital zoom simply crops in on the existing image.

I have a Sony DSC-P1. My wife got it for me last year and it has been great. New, it was $1000, but they've come down quite a bit. If I had it to do over again I would get the same basic camera with more memory. This one uses the memory stick, but at $80 for 32meg it's alot. You can get about 100 640x480 pictures on 32meg and the usb cable moves the pictures fast enough to my PC. I usually take about 40 pictures at 1024x768 and they'll fit on stick and the battery won't be dead yet. It will also take up to 15 second MPEG's. Definitely a cool feature.
If your concerned about price then just make sure the camera you get has a high megapixel rating (3.3 or more) you can always get more memory later.

My 2 cents

Thanks for the advice everyone! I went out to Best Buy after work & decided to spend a little more money(after seeing all my options). Got the Sony DSC-P5(new version of the DSC-P1). Upgraded to a 128meg stick. About twice the amount I was initially thinking of spending, but oh well. I now have a very nice little digicam.

P.S. Sorry Tim, didn't visit this thread after I left for work Monday....thanks for the offer!
