Default Direct TV: Who's got it, what do you think?

They're running some pretty tasty offers. Does the signal really go out when it rains?
They offer the New England Sports Network so I can watch all 162 games of my beloved Red Sox.

ive had it for about a year and no complaints. even in the hurricane we still had directv after the phones and power went out, compared to comcast digital cable that went out at least once a week.

If you can get the signal over 90% then its very rare if it drops out. I'm at 98% and I've never lost the signal, though it gets pixelated for a little bit.

We have had it for 7 years. 4 in Minnesota and 3 in Dallas. It went out in MN during some very heavy snow storms. We have not lost it for more than a few minutes here in Dallas. Picture / sound is far superior to cable. (IMO)

It really has to be raining hard to screw up the picture.

When that happens just turn it off and watch Mother Nature....sometimes that's a better show.

Had it for years and rain has never hurt the signal. Only complaint is calling in, the few times I have, is hard to get anybody on the line. They must have 2 operators for the entire US. Good when you get them, but their awards for customer service must have been purchased. Had another satellite servce for a while and it didn't compare to Direct TV.

I just recently got it, it kicks ass! Highly, highly, highly recomended. 39.99 a month period, no taxes or other fees for 130 plus channels. The local cable company wanted 35 a month for about 40 channels, not including taxes.

I had cable in Atlanta in the summer of 1996. With the Olympic opening ceremonies happening miles away from me I opt'ed to see it on TV rather than buy a ticket. I got home after work, turned the TV on, and the cable was out. I called for cable service, but they said that they couldn't fix it for 24 hours. I ended up watching on my 13" with an antenna. In a blizzard of snow and ghosts (interference) I saw Muhammed Ali light the corndog that lit the olympic torch.

I will NEVER have cable. Currently have DISH Network and haven't had any problems. I hear DirectTV is the same but might have/not have certain channels.

I'm curious. How did it work if the power went out? Does it come with its own power generator?

I don't have DirectTV, but Dish Network. When there is a heavy storm to the south of me, mine will go out. Plus, once it was raining and it changed over to snow and my dish got covered with snow and my signal was gone. I had to go out and clean off the dish. It worked fine after that.
