Dishwashers use the hottest water available, high pressure, and recommend dishwasher detergent which is very strong. Hand washing can leave bacteria, dishwashers properly used will not.

You guys need to experience a good, modern dishwasher. Not only are they quiet but they're more thorough than hand washing and more sanitary.

Best upgrade I made to my house to date.

DaHapa is right. We waited months for this thing (dockworkers strike) but it's worth it...

OMG,

Have we really come down to talking about dishwashers on this board! Well, I guess that's what separates the adults from the kiddies.

I'm actually in the market for a DW, any recommendations that aren't beyong $400?

Next topic is refrigerators...I refuse to start that topic so I will wait for someone else to start it.

BWWWaaahhhhhAAHAH....since this thread is still going on, I'll add a response such as, we have new GE appliances in our house and the dishwasher is great. We usually hand wash our dishes as we are 2 people who eat about 1/3 of our meals at home. When we do fire up the dishwasher I always put it on the antibacteria setting and it gets the dishes very clean even with caked on crap on them. It also runs quite quietly like Da Hapa said. One thing it has is an upper deck sprayer as well as the regular lower deck one. I also use Jet SPray. All these together do a great job.

I am officially a dork, and old.
Thanks guys!

lol, I have to admit, I had never even used a dishwasher until I met my current gf. I said the EXACT same thing as you. However, this is the key to the dishwasher....you don't have to do dishes every night if you are single. Just rinse them off (and maybe use a brush to get the big stuff off) and stick them in the dishwasher. Continue loading until it is full and then turn it on. The idea was lost on me until I started living on my own (my ex did all the dishes, laundry, vacuuming, etc) again and I realized that when I'm full I rarely feel like washing dishes Try it, it really does save more time for doing stuff you like (even bloated beyond belief I can still get myself to go outside and wash the car, give it an oil change, or just go for a drive )

Yeah I actually do have a very expensive dishwasher. I guess I don't use i enough to know all the little tricks. I can't believe I'm actually talking to other guys about dishwasher advice.
