Distinguishing between a suit and a sportcoat
Suit coats come with slacks.
Basically, that's it, but sports coats can have brass buttons or other material not typical to a suit coat. Also there are some materials not found in suits, like cashmere, camel hair, silk, etc...

actually a suit coat with brass buttons is commonly known as a blazer.
