Cool Do you guys remember the TURBO button on PC's?

I remember I had a 100mhz computer... that had a TURBO button that when you'd press it, the digital display would change to 200mhz...

I never understood the purpose... why would anyone turn it off?

We should bring the TURBO button back.

The TURBO button is there for compatibility reasons. In those days, there were many programs that would not function properly when executed on a "fast" machine -- due to internal timing loops and so on. So a method for the owner to "slow down" the computer to allow those programs to execute correctly was necessary.

I used to have an old 286 machine by AST that had, I think, 6, 8 and 12 MHz speed selections. Some games weren't smart enough to slow themselves down based on internal clock, so ran too fast at faster CPU speeds.

I joke about that all the time at work. When the internet is slow i call teh help desk and tell them to hit the turbo button.

on a side note..... hugos house of horror and rebel assault.

Come to think of it, a turbo button could be useful on other things in life...the car, the washing machine, the dishwasher, the lawnmower, and on and on!
