It absolutely is a big deal. As the worlds only Superpower, and the leader of the free world, we can't afford not to know the geography (and politics) of the rest of the world. In a global economy, ignorance is not an option.

Please. I don't know whether Iran or Iraq is on the east side. I would check a map if it came up. Any intelligent person would use a map to verify what they already know, or to confirm what they think, much less to locate a country that they may not be positive about. Saying people are uselessly ignorant because they don't have a clear, accurate mental image of the entire globe is silly.
I took the 20 question sample survey, and the only question I got wrong was the one about the largest religious group, Christianity. I erroneously chose Islam. My bad. What a frikkin' moron I am.
How many of the people surveyed in the US have a job that rewards them for knowing the location of New Jersey or Iraq? Maybe none? How is this indicative of anything other than the fact that US schools don't emphasize geography as much as other countries' school systems?
unabageler- I assume you haven't grown up yet, or you would be able to answer a simple question.

I don't appreciate the personal attack 99GT.
1. If you feel I am obligated to answer all questions presented on this board you are sorely mistaken.
2. Since you hardly know me, it's not unexpected that you failed to read the sarcasm.
Why don't you use huge brain of yours and keep your mouth shut next time?
