Where was that pic taken?

 

Isn't that at an Air Force museum on or near Eglin AFB? The Blackbird is out front. I was there many years ago for some warhead tests. (I flew out a couple of hours before the hurricane hit!)

The SR-71 BlackBird is my all time favorite airplane. I love that thing. Can you imagine it in Spa Yellow Pearl?????

i think the hondacar is faster now as the sr-71 is probably bolted to the ground....

i don't know how many of those things were built but they show up in the strangest places..i was on a trip somewhere in the central valley [fresno?} can't remember..and came across this tiny museum with a few old 50's '60s fighters and over in the corner...an sr..

does anyone know if any are still flying???[near me, nasa still flies a u-2 for research]

 

Unfortunately, I don't believe they are.
I once heard a talk by a Blackbird pilot. It was fascinating. They could not take off with full tanks and would refuel in the air. Well the stall speed of the Blackbird was just about the top speed of the fueler. It made for interesting fillups, he said.
ps. I sat in the cockpit of a Blackbird once. Sadly it was only the cockpit. The rest of the plane was missing.
