Default do your parents trust you?

I am 39 years old... to this day i have not driven one of my dads vehicles by myself (other than stealing his truck at age 15 to piss around in the neighborhood) even to grab a newspaper or milk.

Never visited his house without him being there (he lives 3 hours from me). I mentioned that I wanted to stay for Home Coming while he was on vacation and he was all in a funk so I didn't.....

When i used his computer at Easter he stood over me as if i was going to surf kiddie p_o_r_n and put his name all over it or something... (which i was but....)....

If I asked to borrow his motorhome he would have a zillion excuses why not.

Just curious if anyone else has a parent like that? I think it is more him than his generation?

Now that I think about it...even his wife of 10+ years almost has to beg for permission to drive a car to her parents.... i guess it is somewhat a function of him than me...?

I act stupid but he can see that I drive much nicer cars than his, my house is nicer, etc.... it is not like i live in a double wide and cherish the moment to drive his pontiac vibe...

I'm 23 and my parents 100% trust me, have as long as I can remember. I drive their cars, they have me stay at the house to watch the dogs when they go out of town, they had no problems if I had people over (when I lived at home).

Maybe you're just a troublemaker...

If you were my kid I'd feel the same way. My parent's trust me implicitly.

My dad was similar to yours when I was younger, at least as far as his "stuff" goes. They'd have no problem letting me stay at their house alone or using their PC, but he doesn't like people pushing the buttons on his TV/stereo, and he wouldn't have let me drive his car. Now that I'm older (31), if I had a valid reason for needing to borrow his car, I'm sure he'd let me do it... but he'd definitely want me to pursue all alternatives first.

I'm the same way about my S2000, though. Only one other person has driven my car, and that was for a fun-run at an autocross. I only trusted him because I knew he was an very skilled driver (and in one fun run, he put down a faster time in my own car than I'd been able to manage during my 8 previous runs).

If I have kids, and I still have a "fun" car and a "beater", I can guarantee you they'll never be behind the wheel of my fun car. Also, my media room has a locking door on it, and it would remain locked if there were kids in the house. Same will go for my office (where my PC resides). There will be a public/family PC available, though.
