Does it draw a line?

Basically, if the hovercraft always existed on Earth it draws a dot
But you are not attached to the earth anymore, so how can you be receiving all of the earth's inertia? As soon as you leave the ground, you begin to slow down. This differential is what should draw a line.

What is slowing you down? You said it's a calm day, so I assume that means that we can negate any effects of wind/air friction. So, there is no force acting on you to slow you down.

The fact that the atmosphere 1 foot above the ground is moving slower than the earth is what slows you down.

BTW, no wind does not negate air friction.

If you state that it's calm, then I would take that to mean that the air is moving at exactly the same speed that you are... therefore you feel no air movement (wind), and therefore no air friction because the air is not applying any directional force to you (other than the obvious force needed to provide lift for the hovercraft).

If you're saying that "calm" doesn't mean that you can negate the effect of wind, then obviously the hovercraft will move & draw a line because I can say that there's enough wind to move the hovercraft in some direction.

you will draw a line because of the thrust from the hovercraft.

I was assuming this said "hovercraft" was DEEP in space, not right there on the surface of the earth.

The thrust should be lifting the hovercraft straight up... why would that cause it to draw a line?
