Default Does your HP Printer talks to FBI?

This just came into my email today. This is nuts. I didn't know this thing happens. Good to have Firewall.

----------------------------------------------------------
Wow, I knew printers had anti-counterfeiting stuff in them, but I never knew that a network printer might send packets directly to an FBI site. A later poster points out that ifccfbi.gov is the Internet Fraud Complaint Center.

This is going to sound strange, but does your printer call the FBI?

I was looking through my firewall logs and found this gem:

Oct 17 03:43:33 btw /kernel: Oct 17 03:41:34 btw /kernel:
ipfw: 7800 Unreach TCP 12.1.224.109:80 206.129.5.146:1115
in via xl1

206.129.5.146 is my HP printer. 12.1.224.109 is:

Name: origin.ifccfbi.gov
Address: 12.1.224.109
Aliases: 109.224.1.12.in-addr.arpa

Hope you ran off some big bills. You'll need them for a lawyer, since big brother is watching YOU. . . . or are you watching him? This spy stuff gets confusing.

12.1.224.109 leads to some place called National White Collar Crime Center in West Virginia.

Initiative:

Having no investigative authority of its own, the National White Collar Crime Center is a non-profit organization funded by Congress that provides support services to state and local law enforcement agencies and other organizations with an active interest in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime. Since 1980, our organization has existed to support enforcement agencies in these endeavors.
The NW3C's actions and projects are guided by our member resource and support needs. In addition, we serve as an effective gateway to state and local agencies, as well as some private-sector groups, for other entities and model projects, including:

National Fraud Complaint Management Center (NFCMC)
>Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC)

Research on white collar crime

Training for enforcement agencies involved in the prevention,
investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime

Coalition for the Prevention of Economic Crime

And this is their vision:

The NW3C provides a nationwide support network for enforcement agencies involved in the prevention, investigation, and prosecution of economic and high-tech crime.
Through our experience in fulfilling this mission, we have realized that this concept frequently translates into providing support services to maximize their collective impact. We value diverse agency involvement, public and private partnerships, as well as regional cooperation. Our facilitative structure brings together the right mix of resources to meet the law enforcement challenges our members face in the 21st century.

So I guess I shouldn't try to make a fake ID on my computer.

Of course it does,
every time I log on to the internet, My HP printer copier scanner warms up, hmmm wonder why

I guess this is why I had to re-install windows 3 times to make the HP work.

Just as this is being monitored now

We need JRM on this right away. I think he works for the FBI or at the least is in law enforcement.

Greg - the link you provided doesn't work for me.
