hello what should i do? i went for a walk around my neighborhood and it was just standing there about to get run over by cars. no tags on the dog. then it followed me .5 miles away from where i found it.
i dont want to keep it because i have a dog already. i dont want to call animal control for fear that they'll put it to sleep. i dont want to kick it back out onto the streets because it will be road kill by the morning.
Too bad I've already got my hands full with my rott Otherwise I'd come by and pick 'em up myself. Maybe you should put up signs around town. You know how Diamond Bar people are . . . leaving their dogs unattended with no tags and all and such . . .

I agree with dkhl. I'd be surprised if there weren't a number of no-kill animal shelters near you. These shelters are usually run by private, non-government, organizations. Try looking for a "humane society" in your area. If not, call a shelter and ask them where the no-kill ones are.
Once that dog is cleaned up he'll go to a home really quick. The smaller dogs always do unless they have some sort of bad personality problem.
Just a little tip as I went through the exact same thing 12-31-2001 (you'll understand why I put the date in as you read).
If you really don't want to keep it, a no kill shelter is the best choice. The local county, city, state shelters will kill after 1~2 weeks, if no one claims the dog. Hell the one in Brooklyn told me 72hrs. You can put up signs in the neighborhood, stores, post office, fire dept, and shelter (which I did). But the dog could be abandoned so the owner might not claim it (especially with no tags). Word of warning (pay attention here) about the so called no kill shelters (bide-a-wee, NSAL, etc). They will not take a stray dog. If you call and say "I found a stray dog", they will tell you to take it to the government shelter. You have to claim that it is your dog and you can no longer take care of it. This was something I found out the hard way. I was turned down by them since it was a stray. Given that fact, it is now 4-3-03 and I still have the dog I found and it is best friends with my Lab.
Looks like an American Eskimo (Stitz). I've got two of them, half-brother and half-sister to each other. One is the smartest dog I've ever seen (male, of course). The other is a result of inbreeding, I'm sure.....sweet and stupid.
Either way, it's a keeper. Not great with strangers, though.

I was recently about to get in my car when a BIG dog ran in and started checking things out. When the critter turned and looked at me I got a shock because turned out to be a 90% + wolf mix. It did have a "please call my daddy" tag with a phone number luckily. Problem was I had to leave home and no one was picking up their phone. Since it was obviously a loved animal I didn't want to just let it run. My 3 dogs were in the house and I had to hope my cat was smart enough to avoid it when I locked it in my backyard. While the owner was happy to get his wolf back he said that it got out every few days and if I saw it again just to tell it to go home. The next day it was back to visit.
