I remember back in the day when howard stern was on public radio.. and someone from japan used howardstern.com and howard stern paid the man like tens of thousands of dollars to have rights to the name.

I wish I knew when someone was going to be famous before they are.. I'd do that shit all day long

Because it was actually our company's registered business name the squatter was forced to give it back or face legal proceedings. Almost nobody accesses us through that name but it was ours and is our name and shouldn't belong to someone else.
Yeah but does a registered business name have as much weight as a God given name? I can easily prove that the domain name is unique to me (there are only a handful of people with my last name)

I own my name as a .com (which is used for my business) however anyone who wanted to could register my name as a .net or .org or any other of the new extensions that popup these days.

If you have a lawyer who won't charge you alot you could certainly ask but internet law is pretty vague and changes quite frequently. If you do invest in a lawyer make sure it's one who is knowledgeable in internet matters.

Yep, you're hosed. Had a similar problem a few years back... only instead of $700, the guy had the balls to try to charge $50,000. (We had a bit more than 200 hits).

I, likewise, offered $50 instead, and then told him what he could go do with himself.

Haha the point is to buy all of the possible domain names, fill them with ads, and then when someone misstypes a name like sexybob.com with sexyboby.com they go to their spam site filled with lovely spam.

check out www.nissan.com, and then read about the lawsuit that Nissan (the car company) slapped that guy with... it's pretty epic.

That is pretty dickish. I doubt the computer company would have the 10 million to pay. I think that the Nissan computer company has the rights to the domain name as claiming it first, as well as the fact it is legitimately named Nissan.
Its like saying old mcdonald can't make a website for all of his pets in his name because a giant corporation has the same name.
