I was drafted into the Marine Corps. Turned down a Presidential appointment to the Naval Academy (4years at the Academy and 6years active duty) in HS, turned down the Academy in Boot Camp (High scores on aptitude tests) turned down OCS (2years active upon graduation in addition to time already in) also in boot camp. Did not want to stay longer than my 2 year obligation in 1970. Had I decided to make a career of the Military I would have taken the Academy appointment in High School. I would have been able to retire in 1998 with 30 years, and probably come out as a Lt. Colonel or Colonel.
