If your computer has both a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW, can you copy a music CD from one the other?

xviper, yes, all the DVD-ROMs read CD formats, so you can use the DVD-ROM as the source, and the CD-RW as the burner (of course). You could also do it just with a CD-RW, the files that you want to copy get stored in a temp directory on your HD and then get burned onto the CD-R/CD-RW.

What is the difference with the discs you see to buy - some are DVD-R, some are DVD+R, some are DVD-RW and some are DVD-RW. I guess the same things go for CD's??

CD-R = CD Recordable (can be used/written to only once)
CDRW = CD Rewritable (can be used/written to multiple times)

same goes with DVD-R and DVD-RW

CD media is 640MB or 700MB
DVD media is 4.7GB

http://www.cdrinfo.com has good articles/tips if you are new to burning/copying.

I have found that my CD player can be quite finicky about playing certain types of "burned" discs. For example, my home CD player will not play some CD-R's that my car player will play and neither will play CD-RW's.

I realize that the RW means you can use this disc over and over - I guess my real question is that you see CD-R and CD+R discs in the stores. Is there a difference?
