DVD-Rs...good time to buy?
haven't used em, used the DVDRams before - which pretty much...sucks in my opinion
you can't copy DVD's just like that though - doesn't work that way. do plenty of searches on CSS stuff, and besides, the DVD doesn't exactly understand the 'copy' command - kind of built in protection.
also, the media is quite expensive for consumers.

The media is a bit small for many movies to fit unaltered. CSS is trivial to crack though so copying isn't a big deal. I don't know if the media is readable in standalone DVD players or not, but you could make your own DVDs for playing on your computer. Its easier just to rip them to HD and either play them like that or make a high quality DiVX;-) rip though.
The Superdrive DVD burners and authoring software that ships in the new Macintosh's is pretty cool. I haven't figured out how to just dupe DVD movies. But it is super easy to make your own DVD movies. Blank media is about $10 per DVD disk. Playable on regular DVD players too.
