DVI vs VGA Monitors
DVI is usually for LCD flat panels. It is better for them because it is just a straight digital signal from your computer to the monitor. On the VGA input going to your LCD, your computer has to convert it from digital to analog, and the monitor has to convert it from analog to digital again. DVI-I the most common connector, allows for analog and digital signals.

IMO DVI sucks. UXGA is the highest you can go, and beyond 6' the signal degrades to the point that it is unusable.
