is the economy going down the tube?
not that i haven't noticed the economic problems in the past few years...but it seems many of my friends are losing jobs left and right just very recently, which didn't happen at the height of the "crash" when everyone was worried about their jobs.
do you feel safe about your job?

S2000boi-- Economics 101: tax cuts boost the economy and create jobs. No government anywhere has ever taxed itself into prosperity. But judging from your use of english I can understand why you hold your views.

I think things will generally pick up aside from any homeland attack.
A WAY overvalued stock market, 9/11, and corporate scandals have left us with what we have. Corporate instability is why people lost their jobs and rippled through the rest of the economy. These are the major issues that caused the situation. I wouldn't go blaming the last administration over this!
This week's elections put excellent people into place and finally things at the government level will get done. Lots of positives out there!

It's a bit draconic to blame or credit any particular administration for the economy's performance. Economics is an extremely dynamic and complicated issue. I think the 9/11 attack was coincidental with people starting to notice the slump in the economy; it was going downhill way before then.
Things do seem to be getting better as of recent. Business is starting to pick up in general in my area.
I still can't help but think that a war with Iraq would be a convenient excuse to help jump-start the economy.
Do I still worry about my job? Sure, but more from a convenience issue than anything else. I'm not worried about being employed.

However, since you seem to think that is OK . . .
I'm not worried about my job - my law practice has been about 35% bankruptcy work. Now that Twig (Bush to the rest of you) is in office, I've had more work than I can handle. My thanks to you and all the other morons who apparently voted with the minority who wanted that fool as their President.
As I recall, it was the Twig-style Republics who for years and years bleated about the damage that deficit spending did to the economy. So what was the end result of his gift to the wealthy? Of course it was more deficit spending.
What a joke the Republics are and always have been. W/o exception, they've been against every progressive piece of legislation since the twenties. They are not FOR anything, just against anything reasonable.
I'm very worried about my job. Being in the consulting field, it's very hard to find clients right now. I'm thinking about going back to a permanent job again. Consulting is fun, but when you're not working, it doesn't pay the bills.
lucid - maybe in your state you got some good politicians elected. In ours, we really had the choice of the lesser of two evils. We're pretty much screwed.

Well, I did lose my job last month from a major computer company that is still doing well, increasing revenue and profits every quarter despite the economy. My whole department was wiped out because the CIO is fixated on cutting IT costs. My Dad was laid off earlier this year when his company, Williams Communications, filed bankruptcy so my whole family is feeling it right now. Blaming the Bush administration is funny since the economy was already on its way down before the election and where the stock market was at that time, it was inevitable for a downturn to occur.
I'm trying to use this as a positive thing since I really didn't like what I was doing and I'm hoping that I can move back to my hometown of Tulsa too. I will say that having more free time during the day is nice so I can take the S out for a drive while there is still daylight.
