Electronic Warfare
No, this is very different from electromagnetic pulse. "Counter-electronics High-powered Microwave Advanced Missile Project (CHAMP), which renders electronic targets useless, is a non-kinetic alternative to traditional explosive weapons that use the energy of motion to defeat a target. The CHAMP missile navigated a pre-programmed flight plan and emitted bursts of high-powered energy, effectively knocking out the target's data and electronic subsystems. CHAMP allows for selective high-frequency radio wave strikes against numerous targets during a single mission."
It is my understanding that the US has never used an EMP weapon so far because by merely its use, the enemy (which at the time of the article was the evil Russians and Chinese) would be able to gather information about how the blast was achieved and develop one themselves because it was assumed they did not yet have one. That was from a news report during the Iraq invasion.
Anywho.....my question about this particular mission is to what this missle does when it is finished with the mission? Does it self destruct so spectacularly that you could not discern much about its secret contents, or once you use it does the enemy recover the pieces and now everybody and their brother has one?
