The End Of A Short Era, Or The Beginning Of A Collector's Item?
Yesterday the insurance company told us the settlement on the Civic: $7300. Because that's what I found it would take in this market to replace it, I was pleasantly surprised.
Yesterday my wife took the van in to get a transmission leak checked: $400 later it was ready, sans leak.
Because the clock was ticking on the rental car--the insurance will only pay three days' worth after they've made a settlement offer--she stopped by Santa Ana Honda which was near Santa Ana Chrysler which is where she picked up the van.
We left Santa Ana Honda last night with a 2002 Civic EX. I wanted green w/tan but the only stick they had was silver. Sigh.
Whilst we were there, the salesman told us that 2002 will be the last year for the Prelude, the Passport (I think), and . . . the S2000!
That sounds bizarre! A killer machine, a proven market, tons invested in tooling; why would Honda do this?
Has anyone else heard this vicious rumor?
On the upside, Kelly Blue Book has my 2001 w/20,000 miles worth more than I paid for it. Instant collector's item?

The 'lude hasn't been produced for a while AFAIK, dealers are just pawning off the remaining stock.
The Passport (a rebadged Isuzu Trooper) is being replaced with a mostly-new SUV based off the Acura MDX, the Honda Pilot. The Pilot will share the MDXs 3.5L V6 and AWD platform, and general size, and reduce the luxury level to bring the price down. I predict a winner (especially when compared to the POS Passport).
The S2000 will still be around.
