Engine Replacement
I've got a HPI Nitro RS4 I need a new engine for, After replacing 4 engines in 2 years I'm done with HPI.
Anybody have engine suggestions on engines that fit the RS4 mounting and frame?
I'm not sure why I've had so much trouble with engines, first one I blame on being a noob (not properly broke in), second lasted about a year, but the last two have been crap, even after proper breakin.
Thanks in advance.

Here's the engine I've got right now.

I ran 4 full tanks of fuel through it at idle before driving it, and now it wont run after about 10 tanks total. Changed glow plugs twice with no luck.
Thanks for the help.

Can you manually turn the engine? Is your carb set back to stock settings? Have you tuned it?
It's still left on tune it came with. I'll do some adjusting to see if that helps.
Some times the most obvious is right in front of you face. Thanks for the suggestion.

I wouldn't think that it's an engine problem if it's not getting spark. How's your igniter batteries? Have you tried different temperture ratings for your glow plugs?

It's been a while since I did anything R/C related, but from what I can remember, the break-in process is progressive. Frist tank is at idle, second take is mostly idle with some throttle, and run the engine progressively faster with each tank.
You haven't described the problem you are experiencing with the engine. These engines are VERY simple in terms of operation. If your glow plug glows bright orange when tested outside of the engine, that tells me the glow plug and ignitor are functioning properly. Next thing to check is proper fuel delivery; Unplug the fuel line going from the top of your tank to the muffler, this provides the pressure to push the fuel from the tank into the carburetor. Clean off the fuel line and gently blow into it, you should see fuel running through the fuel line into the carburetor. This is best done with fuel line that is clear or slightly blue so you can see the fuel go through the lines. Also, if your air filter is blocked, the engine won't start. Pull the air filter off before starting the engine to see if it makes a difference.
If that checks out, put all the needles at factory settings and see what happens. If the engine starts, it will probably be very rich (more fuel than air), but that's ok and can be tuned later. This is also a good time to see if the engine runs any differently with the air filter connected.
Try these things and let us know what you find.
