Entrapment?
remember, law enforcement has become a business for revenue... not protection for you.
if there were workers present, then I agree that this is a great tool to slow people down. there are far too many accidents involving construction workers on the side of the road while working. otherwise... the cop is impersonating someone that he is not - undercover you say? I say falsifying. but in my utopian idea, its an honest world.

You know how to beat that? Get everyone to challenge the tickets two at a time (ie, two people at a time challenge the tickets on a given day, then another two the next day, etc, etc). That way, the court dates will come close together. The cop won't be able to make all of them (too busy ticketing others!) and some will get off.
Also, the ISSUING officer won't have seen the gun, so if he comes to court alone, it's hearsay and the ticket is invalid. The guy with the gun MUST come to court. I know - my Dad's beat them that way. The judge requires both officers' presence.
Well, at least here in Canada. I don't see why it wouldn't work, though.

Have you ever tried to drive 45 or 50 in a construction zone on I-95? You are likely to get rear ended. I don't think this is the way to regulate traffic.
I was down in Atlanta by the airport, driving to work and a cop was sitting in the middle of the road every day with his lights on. It was a construction zone it definitely slowed traffic to a safe speed. This is a much better solution for protecting road workers.

agreed pcloadletter. its about being deterred. occassionally where I live, they park a police car with no one in it in the middle of the divided highway. as for a deterrant - it definately works. but it also doesn't make them any money.
It definitely isn't entrapment, it is very tricky though... Speeding is a big game of cat and mouse we use every trick we can and you should expect them to as well. I think that they had a pretty good idea with this one. At least this still has some human evolvement unlike the speed photo radar used in Oregon...Which accounts for the only two tickets on my record (knock on wood); with the photo radar you don't even know that you got a ticket until you receive it in the mail a month later. Tricky little bastards.

If you speed, eventually you'll pay the price. Before anyone starts flaming me, I sometimes speed. I've had speeding tickets, but I don't whine about it being unfair. Although I like to drive faster than the speed limit, I think speed limits are necessary. Driver skill and traffic conditions are not up to a no speed limit road system.
i hate stuff like this. i understand they're focusing on safety to some extent, but overall, i'm with schatten....it's more for revenue! the photo cameras are pure revenue. let's face it, cops spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME and EFFORT trying to find ways to earn revenue. what about the other stuff? don't they have better things to do? they focus more manpower catching speeders than they do criminals. wtf is up with that? sheesh
