Total number of numbers: 112

Initial digit counts:
1 - 43 - 38.39%
2 - 20 - 17.86%
3 - 18 - 16.07%
4 - 5 - 4.46%
5 - 5 - 4.46%
6 - 6 - 5.36%
7 - 7 - 6.25%
8 - 3 - 2.68%
9 - 5 - 4.46%

I think I understand what's going on now, in an intuitive sort of way, but I don't think I can describe it.

I did a similar analysis on all the digits of the numbers. Total number of digits = 389.

Distribution of digits:
0 - 8 - 2.06%
1 - 72 - 18.51%
2 - 53 - 13.62%
3 - 42 - 10.80%
4 - 36 - 9.25%
5 - 37 - 9.51%
6 - 33 - 8.48%
7 - 40 - 10.28%
8 - 33 - 8.48%

Except for the wackiness with the 0s and 1s, it's pretty much what you'd expect.
